Indian Rocks Beach Homes and Condos

As part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Area, it has an easy drive to all the major conveniences, entertainment, dining, shopping, and other attractions of those big cities. 

Indian Rocks Beach has somehow managed to maintain a great amount of its original character and welcoming nature appreciated by both residents and tourists who come from all over the world. It presents a lovely place to live for a small population that was 4,113 at the 2010 census and offers a lively mixture of recreational activities of its own.

Where did the name come from?

Legend says that a native medicine man healed his chief miraculously using natural sulfur spring waters said to have been located across from the City Hall in Kolb Park. Settlers who saw the Indians going to the spring encircled by rocks would say, "They are on the way to the rocks."

Turtle Season

From May 1 through October 31, female turtles come on shore in the dark to the beaches where they were born perhaps decades before, dig a hole with the use of their flippers, and then lay 100 to 150 eggs at one time in three to eight nests. After a gestation period of 45 to 70 days, hatchlings emerge at night and follow the moonlight coming off the Gulf to cross over the beaches to the water. 

The baby turtles can become disoriented from bright lights and illuminated objects, so surrounding homes and accommodations must make a point of dimming those lights at such times. Obstacles such as sand castles and sand pits that the baby hatchlings must cross on their way to the shoreline must also be removed. 

Indian Rocks Beach Nature Preserve

Take a walk on a boardwalk path on a peaceful and clean white sand beach with calm waters. Children like stopping at a unique playground with a full set of park exercise equipment. If you want to bring your dog along, there is a fenced area for it to run and play. The best part might be stopping at Kooky Coconut afterwards for ice cream! 

Kolb Park

This unspoiled park is located on Bay Palm Boulevard between 15th Avenue and 16th Avenues. You can feed fish and view owls, various birds, turtles, and other wildlife. There are tennis courts, a basketball court, a little league baseball/softball field, a racquetball area, and a skate -park. Two shaded playgrounds have swings and a merry-go-round, and there are picnic areas. Watch for notices of many local festivals that occur there including the IRB Oktoberfest.
